Are
you tough enough to wear pink?

That is the question the Lewiston Roundup
Association (LRA) is asking consumers as it launches the Tough Enough to
Wear Pink (TETWP) initiative for their 2008 Rodeo. Part of the proceeds from
the Friday night performance at the Lewiston Roundup will be contributed to
the Gina Quesenberry Foundation to benefit Breast Cancer. The LRA will
contribute $1.00 for each person that attends the Friday night performance
wearing a pink shirt.
The TETWP initiative is the brainchild
of Terry Wheatley, a breast cancer survivor, and Karl Stressman, Director of
Special Events for Wrangler®. Explains Wheatley “Breast cancer has touched
us personally. Last year we put our heads together to think of a way we
could make a difference and TETWP was born. We weren’t sure if we could
convince the cowboys to wear pink, but yes, they ARE tough enough. The rodeo
community is always ready to reach out to those in need and supporting the
fight against breast cancer is no exception.” Says Wheatley.
While Wrangler® has been a part of this
initiative from the beginning; Karl Stressman is the first to say “This is
NOT a Wrangler® initiative. This is a Breast Cancer Awareness & Research
Initiative,” An example of this was shown at this year’s National Finals
Rodeo in Las Vegas. All but two of the contestants at the Friday, December
9th performance were wearing pink and a vast majority of the spectators were
also wearing pink. “The concept of tough cowboys wearing pink might sound
funny, but that contrast is what makes Tough Enough to Wear Pink so special”
said Stressman. “Pink will symbolize courage, strength and determination
when the western industry comes together in the fight against breast
cancer.”
